What makes Green Elly "green" besides your manufacturing process?

Green Elly is produced using natural harvested plant and botanical ingredients such as extracts, purees, flavors and essential oils. When a botanical is being over harvested in the environment, Green Elly Skincare does not use that product, but finds an alternative, comparable source.

Why doesn't Green Elly ship via AIR?

Green Elly made a decision to not ship via AIR for several reasons. First, we firmly believe that the ground shipment uses fewer environmental resources, by shipping items with similar destinations, less need for resources are being used. By shipping UPS ground, fewer trucks and gas are used as they practice a more green friendly shipping as well by using train transportation! We hope that this does not effect our customers decision to purchase from us. Also, the product and packaging maintains its integrity better through ground delivery.

I thought Green Elly products were fragrance free? They have a scent that I wasn't expecting.

That's the joy of our products, each has a unique, lovely subtle scent created through the combination of essential oils and flavors--natural. The only product that wasn't designed with a yummy smell is the Patootie Paste™. The scent from this product comes primarily from the Shea Butter. People often confuse the word fragrance for the word scent. Fragrance, or rather Phthalates, are added and can be very dangerous. There is a great article on babycenter.com explaining Phthalates and their danger to children.

Do you use recycled packaging?

At this time, we do not use recycled packaging until longer term studies can prove that the product will not be effected in any manner. While it is not our first choice to use packaging that doesn't contain any recycled material, we feel it allows for us to ensure the safety of tampering and other issues with product packaging. However, we do use recycled and second hand boxing options for shipping and also send communications electronically when possible.

Does Green Elly contain anything that might cause an allergic reaction?

Some people with sensitive skin have a reaction with lavender, most of our products do contain a lavender oil in trace amounts. The amount of lavender oil is less than .00025%. Additionally, while we are paraben free and phthalate free, some of our ingredients are required for the ability to have product on a shelf for more than a few days. We strive to keep our products as safe, green and natural as possible. Some people have concern about lavender with boys, here's an article that might be helpful: http://www.naha.org/articles/Tisserand,%20R.%20Gynecomastia2_2007.pdf (cut and paste into your browser). We use lavender as it is famous for its cell regeneration properties, lavender is one of the most versatile essential oils a parent can have, and most kids love the smell. An exceptional remedy for burns, cuts, and stings, its healing and antiseptic properties stop the pain and speed up the skin’s healing process. Its analgesic properties help soothe tired, sore muscles and the inflammation from insect bites. Lavender, very relaxing and balancing for both mind and body, aids sleep and benefits the immune system.

Does Green Elly use preservatives?

Anything you buy with regards to skincare commercially will have something to keep from having the natural products spoil. We use the most minimal amount possible and strive to keep this as gentle as we can. You can essentially search the internet and find two sides to every story with regards to ingredients, but we work hard to make sure we use sustainable resources, paraben and phthalate free with minimal preservatives. We manufacture in small batches to be able to use only trace amounts of preservatives and that's why you won't find Green Elly in the big box superstores.

What is Chirally-Correct™?

The short story of it is: With the use of Chiral Technology, a molecule can be separated; one half is able to form a perfect bond with the skin's cells (or cell receptors), while leaving the other, ineffective half, behind. Using only the effective side of the molecule guarantees that each ingredient will have the greatest targeted benefits possible, and dramatically cuts down the potential for any adverse reactions. The human body recognizes natural, but does not recognize artificial chemicals. Additionally Chiral Technology means only using natural ingredients that are in ample supply. If the resource is scare, it is not used. So, its green and natural product, only better.

What are some ingredients that parents should avoid using?

Several chemicals which are popular in skin care products are known irritants and potential carcinogens. Green Elly Skincare products are void from the following:

· Artificial Colors (Artificial colors can cause headaches, irritation to children and people with sensitive skin. Potentially carcinogenic)

· DEA, MEA, TEA (These are groups of synthetic fatty acids used for thickening, and emulsifying. These hormone disrupting chemicals are suspected to be cancer-causing nitrates. Currently already banned in Europe)

· Dimethicone (Silicone product that can clog pores and cause allergic reactions. This synthetic product is what gives lotions and creams an ultra smooth feel)

· Fragrances (Fragrances may affect the central nervous system, causing depression, hyperactivity, irritability, inability to cope, and other behavioral changes)

· Mineral Oil (It is a petroleum by-product that coats the skin like plastic, clogging the pores. It interferes with the skin's ability to eliminate toxins, promoting acne and other disorders)

· Parabens (They have been shown to negatively mimic estrogen and have been found in breast tumors. Parabens are also serious allergens and irritants. Parabens are a by-product of petroleum and often used in cosmetics)

· Petrolatum (Petrolatum is mineral oil jelly. It is commonly used in cosmetics because it is very inexpensive)

· Propylene Glycol ( Also known as "anti-freeze", it is used as a humectant to retain moisture and prevent things from drying out. It has been shown to cause brain, liver and kidney abnormalties)

· Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (These are suspected carcinogens and contains trace amounts of formaldehyde. These are also been shown to cause irritation to eyes, skin and lungs)
